RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL

a high technology restoration and renovation of new york’s most historic theater

When Radio City Music Hall opened in December, 1932, the 5900-seat theater was the largest indoor theater in the world and widely considered to be among the most modern and beautiful. No one had ever seen anything like it: an astonishing design of luxury and sophistication, all for the general public. By 1997, the sixty-five year-old hall was in disrepair and well-meaning attempts at restoration strayed from the original design. Radio City had become a pale copy of its original splendor.

To reestablish this national landmark as one of the world's premier facilities, we recaptured the glamour of the hall's public spaces with virtually all of the original patterns and finishes, murals, carpet design, wall coverings and fabrics.

New production lighting, sound systems and rigging supplement existing technical systems. A new house curtain matching the original in color and texture was installed.

Radio City has regained its position as a contemporary wonder, and a home to popular entertainment of great distinction and sophistication. Imbued with its original progressive spirit, this technologically advanced, elegant public hall now welcomes a new era of entertainment.
